Life In Grays Harbor
Rusty Scupper Pirate Daze 2010
In the Grays Harbor town of Westport, pirates from all over come together for a weekend of food and fun in June. Here is a small taste of what goes on at Rusty Scupper Pirate Daze. A very hearty thanks to all the pirates who let me pester them with questions!
Paint The Corridor
Okay, so sometimes the corridor (Hwy 101, which goes through Aberdeen and Hoquiam), isn't so attractive. Hoquiam attorney Paul Stritmatter decided to do something about it, and came up with a proposal to paint some of the more down-and-out owner-occupied homes with at-cost Kelly Moore recycled eco-conscious paints, thanks to his son Dan, who is a CFO there. Grays Harbor Vision 2020 and NeighborWorks of Grays Harbor took the project on, and 26 homes got a fresh coat of paint. This is one team's experience working on the Domestic Violence shelter, and there were over 300 volunteers who made this happen.
Grays Harbor County Fair
Snapshots from the 2010 GH Co. Fair: Unfortunately I didn't hit the bull blast, couldn't show the concerts and for some reason didn't do much in the main hall, but there is a lot to do! 2011 is the 100th Anniversary edition of the Fair -- stop by and see us at the Greater Grays Harbor booth!
Pony Bridge Hike
We did this sunny hike about 1/3 of the way to Enchanted Valley, which sounds like it might have unicorns and fairies in it (but really, expect Roosevelt Elk and fishers). It is absolutely gorgeous, and after the first two miles it levels out. We fueled up with a delicious lunch at the Lake Quinault Lodge, too. This is a Grays Harbor treasure not to be missed.
Day In The Hoh
Ray and Callie hit Olympic National Park, a place they are lucky to have in their own back yard. This trip was to the Hoh Rainforest, a place of stunning beauty, only a hop skip and a jump away from Grays Harbor.
Sand & Sawdust
Each year, Ocean Shores puts on the Five Star Dealerships Sand & Sawdust Festival, bringing sand and chainsaw sculptors to compete for prizes and glory. We had great weather and a great crowd this year.
Greater Grays Harbor partnered with the Hoquiam Business Association to celebrate the reopening of the Simpson Avenue Bridge with a karaoke video set to the tune of "I Will Survive." So sing along!
Seabrook, a member of Greater Grays Harbor, was selected as the site of Coastal Living's 2010 Ultimate Beach House. With a readership of 3.5 million (web plus the magazine) there are a lot of people who will have a lot of interest in this project, which is helping to define Pacific Northwest coastal style. Here is a small taste of what it is like inside and a little info on Seabrook, a six-year-old town modeled on Seaside, Fla.
