Each quarter Greater Grays Harbor, Inc. (GGHI) selects a recipient to receive the honor of Member of the Quarter. On September 7, 2023 the GGHI Ambassador Team visited La Spiaggia Ristorante located at 729 Point Brown Ave NW in Ocean Shores to present them with their award for Q2 of 2023.
La Spiaggia is a family friendly restaurant in the heart of Ocean Shores. The owners, husband and wife duo, Doug Cox and Rhonda Wirkman have transformed the restaurant into a warm and comfortable space where Chef Doug puts his classically trained skills to use in their “scratch kitchen” focusing on quality and flavorful ingredients. The restaurant is equipped with a full bar serving cocktails, wine and beer selections with a kind and positive staff to create a memorable experience whether you’re on a date night or dining with the entire family.
After opening La Spiaggia in July of 2022 and quickly becoming members of GGHI, Doug and Rhonda fulfilled their lifelong dream and have not looked back since. Over the course of the last year, La Spiaggia has supported North Beach PAWS, the Ocean Shores Food Bank, and Garden by the Sea. Additionally, La Spiaggia has been active members within GGHI as they participated in the Ocean Shores Branch meeting hosted in March, the 2022 Leader’s Banquet & Business Recognition Awards where the sponsored the GGHI Anniversary Champagne Toast, and have plans to host the November 14 Business After Hours event.
Owning and operating a small business has its challenges, but Doug and Rhonda feel that they’ve been well supported by the Ocean Shores community. “We greatly appreciate their support. We didn’t want to be a small fish in a big pond like we would have felt opening a new business somewhere like Seattle. We also love doing business next to the ocean.”
When asked what advice they would offer to another small business, Doug and Rhonda encourage them to get involved in the community, support local organizations and get to know the locals who will provide endless support, especially in the challenging slow season.
